San Francisco Standard editor in chief Kevin Delaney sent out the following to the staff:
I’m happy to announce that Caroline O’Donovan, until recently a reporter in The Washington Post’s SF bureau, is joining us as a senior reporter covering AI and Big Technology. A former colleague described her as an “all-around heavy hitter, relentless at getting the story, developing sources, and conveying the big picture while nailing daily coverage.”
At the Post, she covered Amazon, the company’s foray into healthcare, exploitation of the US Postal Service, review section “influencers,” and struggle with consumer AI, among other things—while also contributing to coverage of the broader tech industry, such as the Zuckerbergs’ philanthropic shifts, the rise of David Ellison, and the many consequences of the AI boom and data center gold rush. Her non-tech coverage at the Post included a recent stint in the Midwest, including a month covering the surge in Minneapolis. Prior to the Post, Caroline was a senior tech reporter at BuzzFeed News and reporter at Nieman Journalism Lab.
At The Standard, her focus will be on the biggest and most important tech companies in the Bay Area, particularly those that matter most to Bay Area residents, as well as stories that serve as dispatches from tech’s capital city in one of its most exciting and baffling eras.
Please join me in welcoming Caroline.
Best,
Kevin
