The San Francisco Chronicle has hired Kate Talerico as a reporter covering Oakland, Berkeley and the inner East Bay.
Talerico was at the Bay Area News Group, where she covered housing. She distinguished herself with exclusive enterprise reporting on a loophole exploited by affordable housing developers, Meta’s abandonment of plans to fund affordable housing and delays to repairs on the Santa Cruz wharf before it collapsed.
“I’ve long admired the Chronicle’s journalism, and it feels surreal to be joining the staff myself,” Talerico said. “It’s a privilege to cover Oakland, the city I’ve come to call home.”
Talerico will report to metro editor Greg Griffin.
