Jim Gardner
Jim Gardner, the editor in chief of the San Francisco Business Times, writes about retiring.
Gardner writes, “It helps to know I leave the Business Times newsroom in the hands of an extraordinarily talented group of soon-to-be-ex-colleagues. My years here afforded me the opportunity to work with some of the finest journalists this region has produced or attracted. Some are still within our newsroom; many others took their talents elsewhere. In fact, there are few Bay Area news outlets that do not have Business Times DNA somewhere within them. Their efforts help make the Bay Area a better place. If I played even a small part in helping them grow, I am immensely proud.
“Still, retirement is a blind plunge into the unknown, exhilarating and terrifying in equal measures. I haven’t taken three straight weeks off in 30 years, a month in more than 40.”
