Semafor has promoted Maxwell Tani to media editor.
He will work more on shaping its media coverage and strategy but still continue to cover media news. He joined Semafor in 2022.
“Max will be playing a big role producing and appearing in our media summit and other public-facing projects you’ll hear more about soon,” said Semafor co-founder Ben Smith in an email to the staff.
Tani previously was at Politico and co-authored its “West Wing Playbook” newsletter.
Tani previously covered politics and media for Business Insider. He previously wrote for the Huffington Post and helped produce the Working podcast for Slate. He has also written about music and film for Washington City Paper.
He is a 2014 graduate of American University in journalism and cinema studies.
