Timothy McDonnell has joined Semafor as an energy and climate editor to anchor the “Net Zero” newsletter, focused on how companies and governments are aiding or impeding decarbonization of the global economy.
Recently, McDonnell reported for Quartz. He worked freelance, covering the intersection of climate change and politics, business, food, science, energy, and culture, in the U.S., sub-Saharan Africa, and elsewhere.
He was part of a nine-month reporting project on climate change impacts to food security in Kenya, Uganda, and Nigeria at National Geographic. He interned at and was an associate producer at Mother Jones.
McDonnell graduated from the University of Arizona.
