Scripps Howard Awards names finalists for biz journalism

The finalists for the 69th annual Scripps Howard Awards were announced on Thursday and included the following finalists for excellence in business and financial reporting:

“Frontline” (PBS) and The New York Times – “Boeing’s Fatal Flaw”
The California Newsroom, KRCB and KQED – “Bankrupt”
ProPublica – “The Secret IRS Files”

The Wall Street Journal’s “Facebook Files” was also named a winner in the excellence in national/international investigative reporting category, the Ursula and Gilbert Farfel Prize.

The winners will be announced June 12 during a special program airing at 8 p.m. on Newsy. All of the finalists can be found here.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
