SABEW selects Xana Fellows for conference

The Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing selected 10 business journalists as Xana Fellows for SABEW24 taking place April 18-20 at the Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications at Northwestern University’s downtown Chicago campus.

During the three-day program, the fellows will sharpen their journalistic skills, learn best practices, network and more as SABEW24 will convene newsmakers, government officials, economists, executives, academia and top-notch journalists.

The fourth class of Xana Fellows include:

  1. Chantal Allam, real estate journalist, The (Raleigh) News & Observer
  2. Suzannah Cavanaugh, senior reporter, podcast host of Deconstruct, The Real Deal
  3. Rosalie Chan, senior tech editor, Business Insider
  4. Xiumei Dong, senior reporter, Law360
  5. Madeline Durrett, senior associate editor, Connectivity Business News
  6. Emma Graney, energy reporter, The Globe and Mail
  7. Randa Kriss, lead writer, SMB, NerdWallet
  8. Serah Louis, reporter, Moneywise
  9. Lucia Maffei, technology reporter, Boston Business Journal
  10. Ariana Perez-Castells, reporter, The Philadelphia Inquirer

The fellows will also participate in invitation-only specialized news leadership development sessions throughout the year. The program includes topics like managing up, resolving newsroom conflict, managing change and achieving career goals.

SABEW launched the Xana Fund mid-career leadership program in 2020 in honor of SABEW board member and Quartz Executive Editor Xana Antunes. She was dedicated to ensuring that individual journalists had space to develop their skills despite facing relentless change across the industry. Antunes was also focused on the gender gap in business news and the need for more structured opportunities for female business journalists to advance their careers.

This project is supported by a sponsorship from Google and through donations from individuals and Xana’s family. Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to the Xana Fund online.
