SABEW selects Sho fellows

April 6, 2023

Posted by Chris Roush

The Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing selected three business journalists of color as Sho Fellows for its annual conference taking place April 20-22 at Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The Sho Fellows include Bria Overs, finance reporter, Word in Black; Tekendra Parmar, tech features editor, Business Insider; and James Pothen, freelance journalist.

During the three-day program, the Fellows will tap into the Poynter’s deep expertise in teaching journalists and explore Florida as an epicenter of the country’s post-pandemic economy. Session topics include climate change, housing, artificial intelligence, the banking crisis, private equity and financial inclusion.

SABEW board member Shobhana Chandra, known as Sho to friends and colleagues, was an economics reporter for Bloomberg News when she passed away in February 2019.

After her passing, SABEW started The Sho Fund to salute her legacy and honor her contributions to the profession and the organization. The Sho Fund aims to attract journalists of color and help them in their careers by supporting professional development opportunities.

This project is supported by a sponsorship from Google and donations from individuals. If you would like to make a donation in memory of Sho, please complete SABEW’s online donation form and designate your contribution to The Sho Fund in the designation drop-down menu selection.
