Reuters climate and environment editor Katy Daigle sent the following message to staff about six appointments to the climate and sustainable business teams:

As Reuters continues to expand its climate and environment coverage, we are thrilled to announce six new hires across the company. These journalists – David Stanway, Ali Withers, Isla Binnie, Tommy Reggiori Wilkes, Virginia Furness and Clark Mindock – represent a diverse set of talents and interests and will sit on different teams globally.

Ali Withers joins Reuters in the newly formed role of Climate & Environment Visuals Senior Producer, based in Copenhagen, Denmark, and will be working with Video and Photo teams worldwide to generate and elevate coverage on the beat. A video journalist who has documented the effects of climate change, resource extraction and biodiversity loss around the world, Ali has worked as a staff video journalist at NBC News Digital and Bloomberg News, and more recently as a freelance video and documentary filmmaker. Her work has appeared in BBC News, The Washington Post, The Nation and TV2 Denmark, among others.

David Stanway has been appointed as a Climate & Environment Correspondent, based in Singapore. In his new role, he will focus on both global and Asia-based stories on the beat. During his two decades working in China, David developed expertise on Asia’s energy and manufacturing issues – a key component of today’s climate story. His skill in handling science-based stories helped to put him at the forefront of covering China’s covid story, while he also tackled China’s industrial legacy through stories on air pollution, cancer villages, chemical explosions, coal mine disasters and climate impacts including droughts and floods.

Isla Binnie joins the Sustainable Finance Team as a correspondent in New York, where she will focus on how businesses and investors across the Americas are tackling environmental, social and governance issues. Isla began her Reuters career in 2011 with IFR (International Financing Review), before becoming a correspondent in Italy in 2013. Six years later, she moved to Madrid to cover European telecoms and the Catalan independence movement. In 2020, she began taking on more European climate stories, and last year reported on the energy transition with a focus on renewables.

Tommy Reggiori Wilkes joins the global Sustainable Finance Team as a London-based senior correspondent covering how climate change and other issues including governance and social justice are impacting the financial and corporate worlds. Tommy began his Reuters career covering hedge funds and fund management, before moving to New Delhi as a South Asia correspondent. Since 2018, Tommy has focused on European financial markets, including foreign exchanges, the market fallout from Brexit, and economic trends. He was deployed to the Nairobi bureau in 2022 before returning to London for his new role.

Virginia Furness also joins the Sustainable Finance Team as a correspondent in London, returning to Reuters after three years covering sustainability and capital markets for others. Virginia began her career covering capital markets from London and Hong Kong for the trade magazine GlobalCapital, before joining Reuters’ markets team in 2018. She then moved onto Euromoney Magazine as their Middle East and Africa Editor, before becoming part of a team at the New Statesman Media Group that helped to launch a publication dedicated to sustainable banking and finance.

Clark Mindock joined the Reuters Legal team last year, reporting on energy and environmental legal news. Based in New York, Clark has covered presidential campaigns, natural disasters, immigration, and other U.S. news for publications including The Guardian, the International Business Times and the Philadelphia Inquirer. During a three-year stint as a U.S. reporter for the Independent, Mindock began exploring the environment beat.
