Reuters names Lang its newsroom AI editor

Rob Lang

Reuters global editor of newsroom AI and financial news strategy Jonathan Leff shared the below note to staff, announcing the appointment of Rob Lang as newsroom AI editor:

Colleagues,

I am thrilled to announce that Rob Lang will become Reuters first-ever Newsroom AI Editor, a new role that will help us accelerate efforts to turn your innovative AI ideas into valuable editorial solutions. He will take up his new role on July 1 and will report to me.

Rob’s deep understanding of editorial operations, combined with his technical fluency, makes him uniquely suited to lead the next chapter in our newsroom’s evolution. As Global Production Editor for Reuters Video News, he has overseen transformative changes in our video production systems and workflows, ensuring that footage captured by journalists around the world is delivered seamlessly to clients.

In this new role, Rob will advance grassroots innovations emerging from our bureaus, helping identify and create short-term practical solutions to everyday challenges while laying the groundwork for fully integrated workflow capabilities. He will develop and evangelize best practices for prompt engineering, oversee quality reviews for new AI skills and ensure our newsroom is making full use of the many resources available.

Many of you already know Rob as an enthusiastic, hands-on leader in video and technology. In his new role, he will bring that same energy and expertise to the vital task of using generative AI to enhance every facet of our journalism.

Please join me in congratulating Rob on this exciting new role.
