June 28, 2023

Aditya Kalra, company news editor in India for Reuters, sent out the following to the staff:

Dhwani Pandya

Dhwani Pandya will join the India company news team after more than eight years at Bloomberg, where she reported on energy markets, Indian conglomerates, and themes such as infrastructure and real estate.

Dhwani has written stories on billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s plans to expand into data centres, tycoon Gautam Adani’s push to redevelop Asia’s largest slum and India’s debt-laden real estate sector. She has also switched gears to report non-business stories on topics such as Mumbai’s handling of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Dhwani was part of a team which won the 2023 New York Press Club Journalism award for a story that showed how fast fashion was choking developing countries with trash.

In her new role as India Companies Correspondent, she will report across sectors, with focus on breaking news and enterprise stories on big companies – be it Adani and Reliance or foreign giants such as Amazon and Mastercard.

When not working, Dhwani loves to go on Himalayan treks or indulge in birdwatching. Writing poems and watching historical or sci-fi shows are among other favourites. She will be based in Mumbai and report to Aditya, starting July 3.

Rishika Sadam

Rishika Sadam has joined the India company news team and will be based in Hyderabad. She is returning to Reuters after starting her career in the Bengaluru bureau in 2014 and most recently worked at Indian news outlet The Print, where she spearheaded their coverage in two southern states.

Rishika has in the past reported stories on U.S. markets and social media giants such as Facebook and Twitter. She has also written extensively on Indian politics, state finances and vaccine manufacturers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the new role, Rishika will be part of the Bengaluru-based India team as a senior correspondent. From the industrial city of Hyderabad, she aims to deepen our reporting of pharmaceutical and other fast-growing sectors, including IT and EVs, and plans write on everything from big spot developments to enterprise stories.

Rishika believes in being on the ground chasing tips. In her free time, which she calls a luxury, Rishika likes watching documentaries and researching about the little heritage that’s left in cities today. Not a hardcore food enthusiast yet, but she also loves exploring cuisines and enjoys debating why ‘Hyderabadi biryani’ is the best.

Rishika joined on June 26 and will report to India Spot Company News Editor, Dhanya Skariachan .
