Rest of World has hired Mehboob Jeelani as its Asia editor.

He will start in February.

He has more than a decade of experience working as a reporter and editor in India, the U.S., and Turkey, covering politics, culture, and technology. Most recently, he led TRT World’s digital newsroom, overseeing and editing coverage of global politics, economics, and technology.

Previously, Jeelani worked as a reporter at Fortune magazine in New York, reporting on big data, emerging technologies, and drone disruption. He spent several years as a staff writer at The Caravan magazine in New Delhi, where he reported on India’s political and economic transformation, tech-driven urbanization, developmental economics, and lingering conflicts.

Jeelani graduated with an M.A. in journalism and politics from the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University in New York.
