Jeff Lagerquist, a reporter for Yahoo Finance Canada, was laid off, along with the rest of the finance team.
A Yahoo Finance spokesperson said, “We still have a presence in Canada. Moving forward, we’re going to increasingly rely on premium third-party partnerships to deliver locally-relevant, in-depth coverage there. We also still have editorial staff with local expertise dedicated to programming our sites there.”
“It’s sad to see the already small world of Canadian financial journalism get a little smaller with this decision,” he wrote on LinkedIn. “To pull back the curtain slightly, the Yahoo Finance Canada team was in many ways an extension of the company’s finance team in the United States.”
Lagerquist has been with the news organization for more than seven years. Before that, he was a news writer for CTV News. He also worked as a web producer for BNN.
He is a graduate of Ryerson University.
