CoStar Group, which operates a real estate news service, has laid off some editorial staff in its Richmond, Virginia, operations.
Among those laid off were Eric Garwood, a content editor for its Homes.com operation, and Meredith Rosenberg, who had been covering architecture and real estate.
Rosenberg wrote on LinkedIn that her team was laid off.
In a Thursday release, the company said that it “expects to eliminate roles in 2025 from efficiencies gained by using AI and reallocate those resources into other areas. The company also anticipates reducing some roles during normal annual performance management.”
It declined to respond when asked about the number of people who left and how many were in editorial roles. The statement noted that the company plans to add 1,000 employees this year, and “the company plans to hire for additional roles in development, technology, artificial intelligence, video production, real estate writing, news, management and other roles.”
A Richmond Times-Dispatch story reported that about 120 workers were cut.
The Homes.com network drew an average monthly audience of 110 million unique visitors in the fourth quarter of 2024, according to Google Analytics.
