Michael Reilly, the executive editor of MIT Technology Review, has been hired as editorial director of tech news site Protocol.
“I’ve been blown away by what the team has accomplished so far, and am beyond excited to help take Protocol to the next level,” he wrote on Twitter.
He has been leading MIT Tech’s editorial team, directing its coverage in all aspects of emerging technology. In his time as executive editor, Technology Review has twice been a National Magazine Award Finalist, a multiple Webby Finalist for its work online, and won numerous individual awards for its journalism in print, digital, and audio formats.
He has been at MIT Tech since January 2016.
He previously was deputy editor and editor in chief of Timeline and senior technology editor at New Scientist.
He also worked at Discovery News.
Reilly holds a bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College and a master’s from Rutgers University.
