Politico has promoted Clea Benson to managing editor for policy. In her new role, she will be guiding Politico’s policy coverage and strengthening its r pipelining and hiring practices.
Currently, Benson oversees coverage across the health care and economy teams as deputy managing editor. She also coordinates Politico’s internship program and runs its Pipeline Committee, a group of journalists who work to increase diversity at Politico and improve the newsroom in other ways.
Previously, she has also covered Wall Street regulators and U.S. economic policy for Politico. She has also covered financial regulation as a reporter for Bloomberg and was an economic policy reporter at Congressional Quarterly.
Additionally, she has also reported for The Sacramento Bee and The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Benson has a B.A. in English from Bryn Mawr College and a M.J. in journalism from the University of California, Berkeley.
