Emma Anderson has been named Politico’s California tech editor.
Her responsibilities include directing news coverage of state policies on social media, AI, privacy and more.
She has seven years of experience editing politics and policy from Politico bureaus across the globe. Before Politico, she worked for The Local Europe, covering the impacts of the 2015 refugee crisis as well as Brexit across the continent. She was part of the 2015 duPont Award-winning team behind NPR’s investigative series “Guilty and Charged.”
Anderson oversees POLITICO California’s artificial intelligence coverage and helps coordinate global reporting on AI between the Sacramento, Washington, Brussels and London bureaus. She edits the “California Decoded” newsletter that captures and analyzes the conversation around the key players, regulatory battles and political dynamics of AI in the state.
She also oversees health coverage from Sacramento.
She has worn many hats at Politico since she started as a news editor in Europe in 2017, guiding coverage on elections, trade and agriculture policy, as well as helping launch the UNGA Playbook and a precursor to Politico Europe’s cybersecurity newsletter. She was Politico’s war czar and has edited newsletters across four different time zones.
