Mark Satter

Politico defense editor Jessica Meyers, deputy defense editor Benton Ives and head of news Grace Maalouf sent out the following:

We’re delighted to announce that Mark Satter will join our growing Global Security team to cover defense policy, from Capitol Hill to the Pentagon.

Mark will use his strong sourcing in Congress to get inside the power dynamics and key decisions involving major defense officials and lawmakers. He joins a team of reporters bringing POLITICO’s audience in Washington and beyond unmatched insight into some of the most sensitive policy battles of the Trump administration.

He has spent the past six years covering defense for CQ Roll Call, building a strong record of scoops and analysis on an increasingly closed defense apparatus. He broke important news on a range of subjects, including congressional oversight of  military operations, extremism in the armed forces and efforts to curb  troop deaths during training.

Mark has also worked as a correspondent for the Ukraine Business Journal in Kyiv, where his coverage included cyberattacks and organized crime.

A graduate of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, Mark is a native Washingtonian and Russian speaker.

He spends his free time running, cycling or working on his short game — which, he insists, needs all the help it can get.

Please joining us in welcoming him to the newsroom.
