Alex Ruoff

Politico senior editor for Congressional energy coverage Manuel Quiñones, dditorial director for energy and environmental coverage Debra Kahn and deputy editor-in-chief Joseph J. Schatz sent out the following:

We’re thrilled to announce that Alex Ruoff is joining POLITICO as deputy Congress editor for energy and environment, helping bolster one of our most important coverage areas.

Alex comes aboard at a particularly dynamic time — both for the major storylines heading into the midterms, including affordability, permitting reform and data centers, and for our energy and environment congressional team, whose reporting is among our most indispensable and widely read by subscribers. He’ll help us elevate their work as we debut new newsletters and seek even greater resonance across all audiences.

Alex comes to us after more than a dozen years at Bloomberg, where he went from leading Bloomberg Government’s congressional health care policy coverage to editing across BGov’s transportation, health care, labor, immigration and appropriations teams. Most recently, he oversaw Bloomberg Law’s labor and employment law coverage. Fun fact about Alex: He has eaten every breakfast sandwich on WaPo’s top 10 best of DC list. (Ask him his favorite.)

We had a very strong pool of candidates in our search for a deputy editor. Alex stood out for his experience, approach and sharp thinking. He also has many fans within our newsroom, who spoke to the quality of his work and leadership. We’re very much looking forward to his contributions.

Alex starts July 14 and will report to Manuel. Please join us in giving him a warm welcome.
