The Penny Hoarder managing editor John Schlander has been hired by Clever Real Estate to starts a news operation.
He will start on Monday.
“It’s a rare opportunity to build a news department from scratch at a fast-growing startup with a great mission.,” he wrote on Facebook.
Clever was founded in 2017 with the idea of making selling or buying a home easier and more affordable for everyone.
Schlander joined The Penny Hoarder in 2016 after a 32-year career at the Tampa Bay Times, Florida’s largest newspaper. He worked there in a series of editing roles before becoming digital general manager in 2013.
Schlander specializes in analytics and search engine optimization. He’s also a frequent speaker at trade conferences.
Schlander has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Penn State University.
