The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has asked its staff not to leak announcements and information to the media, reports Nick Robertson of Mlex.
Robertson reports, “CIO Jamie Holcomb’s message, ‘Reminder of the USPTO’s Rules of the Road,’ asks staff not to share office communications with the press.
“‘Every day, we all play a critical role in safeguarding our agency’s information from cyber threats. The actions we take day to day help protect sensitive information and maintain our public trust,’ the message reads.
“‘Recently, public news sites published content from internal USPTO emails. As a strong reminder, all USPTO employees must not share internal information and communications externally without authorization,’ it continues, listing the office’s information cybersecurity policy.
“‘Violations of our Rules of the Road may be subject to disciplinary action.’
“The USPTO employee who shared the email with me denounced the action.”
