OLD Media Moves

O’Brien named editor of Bloomberg Opinion

Timothy O’Brien

Bloomberg editor-in-chief John Micklethwait sent the following note to Bloomberg staff on Thursday:

To All in Editorial & Research,

After more than 11 years as our Opinion editor, David Shipley is sadly leaving us for pastures new. David has built Opinion into a hefty powerhouse of independent comment around the world and a champion of the radical center in American politics (a sadly underpopulated part of US journalism). He has done this, first and foremost, by gathering a fantastic team of writers and editors around him. So I am delighted to announce that one of our most successful columnists, Tim O’Brien, who has also played such a crucial managerial role alongside David since he joined nine years ago, will now become the new editor of Bloomberg Opinion.
