O’Brien departing CNN Business at the end of the week

CNN Business reporter Sara Ashley O’Brien is leaving the news organization at the end of the week for a new opportunity.

She is a senior writer covering tech and tech culture.

She frequently writes about tech’s “unicorn” companies and their societal impact, as well as online cultural issues including harassment and revenge porn. She’s done deep dives on issues ranging from sexual harassment and assault by ride-hailing drivers to the rise of deep fakes. She’s also reported on the hot button H-1B visa, as well diversity and inclusion as it pertains to the tech industry.

O’Brien went to the University of Virginia, and got her M.S. in 2014 at Columbia University’s School of Journalism.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
