Award-winning broadcast journalist and longtime New York Financial Writers’ Association member Ali Velshi will discuss his experiences covering global and economic issues through a financial lens on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m.
Among the topics Velshi will hit on are the global backsliding of democracy, equality and justice under the law, the increasing threat of persecution – and even genocide — and the failure of global organizations to deal with any of it.
Velshi is the host of “Velshi” on MSNBC, a business correspondent for NBC News, a columnist for MSNBC and a weekly economics contributor to NPR’s “Here And Now.” He has covered multiple U.S. presidential elections and major news stories around the globe, including extensive reporting from Ukraine and across Central and Eastern Europe during the Russian invasion, the Syrian refugee crisis from Turkey and Jordan, the Iran Nuclear Deal in Tehran, the Greek debt crisis in Athens and the funeral of Nelson Mandela in South Africa.
Velshi is recognized for his immersive on-the-ground reporting and his interactive discussions with small groups, which form part of his ongoing series, “Velshi Across America.”
The discussion will be facilitated by NYFWA president Peter Coy, a New York Times Opinion economic writer.
