NY Times names Bradsher its Beijing bureau chief

Keith Bradsher

Keith Bradsher has been appointed Beijing bureau chief, where he will continue to cover business and economics in China for The New York Times. He will also be responsible for overseeing the bureau.

Bradsher has been serving as Shanghai bureau chief/senior writer for Asia economics and business since 2016. Before that, he was Hong Kong bureau chief, Detroit bureau chief and an economics correspondent in Washington. He was also a business reporter in New York.

Bradsher was part of a team at the Times that won a 2013 Pulitzer Prize, which looked into how Apple outsourced manufacturing to China. He was also a 1998 Pulitzer finalist for his investigation into the safety and environmental hazards from sport utility vehicles.

Alexandra Stevenson

Alexandra Stevenson, Asia business correspondent at the New York Times will be taking over as the Shanghai bureau chief. Stevenson joined the Times in 2013 as a reporter in New York, covering hedge funds. Previously, she was at the Financial Times, where she covered British companies, European capital markets and emerging markets.

Daisuke Wakabayashi

Lastly, Daisuke Wakabayashi will be joining the Seoul hub in the coming months as Asia business correspondent. In this role, he will be covering everything from banking systems and cryptocurrencies to stock markets and real estate, while also exploring the broader world of business.

Currently, he is a technology reporter in the Times’ San Francisco bureau. He has also reported on Japanese technology companies and covered all aspects of Apple Inc. for The Wall Street Journal. He has also worked at Reuters for 10 years.
