The New York Times has hired Erik Wemple to cover media news for the business section.
He will start in September and be based in Washington.
Wemple has been at The Washington Post for the past 14 years and is taking the newspaper’s buyout offer.
He previously was the Loose Lips columnist for Washington City Paper. Then came a stint covering Washington for a New York-based, media-obsessed product of the Internet bubble (Inside.com, now defunct). He also spent eight years as editor of City Paper and another year as editor of TBD.com.
Wemple holds a bachelor’s degree from Hamilton College and a master’s degree from Georgetown University.
