Madeleine Ngo

New York Times Washington bureau chief Elisabeth Bumiller and economics editor Deborah Solomon sent out the following on Monday:

We’re ecstatic to announce that Maddie Ngo, who was our 2021–22 Rosenbaum fellow, is back as a reporter in the Washington bureau. Maddie will cover economics and follow the money to see where all those billions of dollars in stimulus funds went.

Maddie comes to us after covering economic policy, the Fed and inflation at Vox for most of the past year. As our fellow, Maddie memorably wrote about the shortage of truck drivers, how schools had to scramble to feed students amid supply chain shortages and Vietnamese Americans mobilizing to help Afghan refugees. She covered how the Transportation Department dispensed infrastructure money around the country, and also helped National in its coverage of the condominium collapse in Surfside, Fla.

Before The Times, Maddie worked at The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg News and The Philadelphia Inquirer. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and is a native of Pensacola, Fla.

She starts today. Please welcome her!
