Connor Ennis, an editor on the New York Times business news desk, is moving to a role at The Athletic.
Oskar Garcia, the editorial director of The Athletic, sent out the following note:
Hi everyone, I’m thrilled to share that Connor Ennis, a longtime editor with an enthusiasm for news and for crafting and shaping smart stories, will join us on Monday as senior managing editor of the Daily Desk. Connor is a huge sports fan – he especially likes the Mets and college sports – and he’s been drawn to sports coverage throughout his career and to our Athletic coverage from afar. That makes him perfect for the Daily Desk, our ambitious new effort to centralize our conversations around news and to take on more daily editing so that verticals can boost their beats.
Connor joins us from The New York Times, where he spent 18 years in the newsroom in various roles. Most recently, he led a group of reporters in the Business section covering the power dynamics throughout sports. There’s a good chance you’ve read some of the work he’s shepherded, including recent stories on NIL in college football, commercial breaks and gambling in the NFL, the tensions on the future of “Inside the NBA” and the ambitions for Salt Lake City with hockey and hoops. He also wore several other hats in the section, including weekend editor and deputy media editor.
Connor started his Times run in 2006 in its Sports section, where he oversaw coverage of college sports and the NFL and led stories during numerous major moments, including the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal at Penn State and the Giants’ win over the Patriots in the Super Bowl following the 2011 season.
And before the Times, Connor was an editor on the sports desk at The Associated Press in New York, where in part he was the day supervisor coordinating sports coverage globally.
Please join me in welcoming and congratulating Connor!
