Memphis Biz Journal reporter Davis departs for Commercial Appeal

Memphis Business Journal reporter Corey Davis has left the paper to cover suburbs for the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

He was at the American City Business Journals paper for the past four years covering a variety of beats, including travel and tourism, logistics and transportation, banking and finance, sports business, the airport, and diversity.

He previously worked almost five years as the education and business reporter at the Rocky Mount Telegram in North Carolina. Davis also spent four years as a sports writer at the Richmond County Daily Journal and three years as a general assignment reporter at the Sumter Daily Item.

Davis won first place in category of business writing dallies only in the 2017 North Carolina Press Association Contest and was part of the staff that won the O. Henry Award, which recognizes outstanding writing in Associated Press newspapers in North Carolina.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
