Surya Mattu, an investigative data journalist at The Markup, is leaving the tech news organization for a new opportunity.
He has been a Knight-Wallace Reporting Fellow at the University of Michigan for most of the past year, researching how smartphone applications are used to track consumers.
Mattu has been with The Markup since September 2018 and previously was a research scientist at the MIT Media Lab/Center for Future Civic Media.
He also worked as a data reporter on the special projects desk at Gizmodo.
