Longtime WSJ and Dow Jones journalist Austin departs company

Scott Austin

Scott Austin, a longtime reporter and editor at Dow Jones Newswires and The Wall Street Journal who joined the company’s business side in 2019, has left the company.

“Now I’m looking for ways to leverage my editorial skills with the business-development experience I gained on the corporate side of Dow Jones,” he wrote on Twitter on Wednesday.

He has been senior vice president of media partnerships at The Journal and Dow Jones. Before that, he was senior deputy bureau chief in San Francisco.

Austin joined Dow Jones in 2000 as a spot-news wires reporter covering, among other things, IPOs that were going poof as the tech nuclear winter set in.

From 2006 to 2011 he managed VentureWire, while also writing a venture capital column for MarketWatch and a venture funding column for the Journal.

From 2011 to 2014, he was tech editor on the Corporate/Marketplace desk, editing and driving stories and packages including the widely shared WSJ Wireless Calculator and the Billion-Dollar Startup Club.

He studied journalism at the University of Texas at Austin. He interned at Texas Monthly magazine and ESPN The Magazine.
