Longtime biz journalist Ellis is retiring

James Ellis, longtime business journalist at Bloomberg Businessweek, is retiring.

He most recently has been assistant managing editor of the magazine, but he’s also been op-ed editor, chief of correspondents, senior writer and bureau chief in Atlanta and Chicago.

Ellis started his career at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He joined BusinessWeek in 1980. Ellis specialized in covering the airline, aerospace, defense, packaged food and soft drink industries.

Ellis has served on the finance board of the National Association of Black Journalists and the board of advisors to the Kenan-Flagler Business School of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

A graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism, his professional honors include the Harlem YMCA Black Achievers in Industry award and the Missouri Honor Medal for Distinguished Service in Journalism.
