Jamie LaReau has been named senior autos writer for Gannett.
She has been covering General Motors for the Detroit Free Press for the last seven years and will start covering Ford on Jan. 6.
She joined the Detroit Free Press in June 2018. Previously, she spent 13 years writing for Automotive News.
Most recently, the Society for Professional Journalists awarded LaReau first place in 2019 for her coverage of the GM strike. She has been nominated for a Pulitzer and for the 2020 Richard Milliman Journalist of the Year by the Michigan Press Association.
LaReau has been a journalist for 30 years. She has worked at Reuters in New York covering transportation companies. She covered the financial markets for Bridge Wire Service in Chicago and general assignment reporting at various television and radio news outlets across the Midwest, including bureau chief for WHOI-TV in Peoria, Illinois.
A native Detroiter, LaReau graduated from Michigan State University.
