Labi departs Comstock’s to join SF Chronicle

The following was sent out from the San Francisco Chronicle’s senior arts and entertainment editor Mariecar Mendoza:

Vanessa Labi

The San Francisco Chronicle is excited to welcome Vanessa Labi as its new assistant arts and entertainment editor for Datebook.

Labi comes to The Chronicle after serving as deputy editor for Comstock’s Magazine, based in Sacramento. She worked for the monthly business publication for nearly two years, where she wrote and edited business and culture stories covering the region. She also produced the magazine’s weekly newsletter and hosted its podcast “Comstock’s Talks.”

Prior to the magazine, Labi was a social media strategist for various marketing agencies. She also used to have a fashion blog (where she wore many unfortunate hats), has dabbled in DJing and loves to dance.

She is a graduate of UCLA and a resident of Sacramento.

“I am delighted to join Datebook, a rich source of arts coverage that I’ve followed for a long time,” Labi said. “Consuming art is one of the best things in life, and I could not be more excited to help cover and frame the Bay Area’s rich cultural landscape.”

Labi will report to Mariecar Mendoza, senior arts and entertainment editor, and will help oversee Datebook’s coverage of the vibrant Bay Area arts community.

“Vanessa’s background in social media strategy is a welcome addition as we continue to expand our reach and deliver the best we have to offer each day at datebook.sfchronicle.com,” Mendoza said. “I’m excited for the energy and the innovative ideas she will bring to The Chronicle.”
