The Los Angeles Times has hired Eric Bellman as deputy business editor, overseeing reporters covering some of California’s biggest business news stories.
Bellman previously was a tech editor in The Wall Street Journal’s San Francisco bureau, where he managed coverage of e-commerce, the gig economy and defense technology. He edited one of the most-read weekly newsletters on tech and has also handled enterprise, AI and gaming coverage.
He spent more than 15 years bounding around Asia through the Journal’s bureaus in Manila, Mumbai, Jakarta and New Delhi.
Bellman’s most recent stint there was heading the South Asia team. He has won multiple awards and covered tsunamis and terrorist attacks but has spent most of his career and effort on Asian tech, corporate and macroeconomic stories.
He studied at the University of Washington and Johns Hopkins.
