LA Times biz columnist Lazarus leaving for KTLA

David Lazarus

Los Angeles Times business columnist David Lazarus is leaving the newspaper at the end of the month to join station KTLA.

Has has been focusing on consumer affairs and joined the paper in 2007. He also appears daily on KTLA-TV Channel 5 and is a part-time radio host.

His work appears in newspapers across the country and has resulted in a variety of laws protecting consumers.

He has deep roots in Southern California. He attended Ojai Valley School and Crossroads in Santa Monica before heading north to UC Berkeley, where he earned a degree in history. After graduating, “Laz” spent 12 years living abroad, working as a journalist in Athens, Bangkok and Tokyo.

He then covered business and technology for Wired and the San Francisco Chronicle before returning to the Southland.

His work has earned two National Headliner Awards and multiple honors from the Society of Professional Journalists. He received a Golden Mike for TV commentary and was named Journalist of the Year by the Consumer Federation of California.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
