Bloomberg News reporter Gregory Korte has moved to the New York city hall beat on a temporary basis, filling in for Laura Nahmais, who’s on maternity leave.

He was hired from USA Today, where he was a senior national correspondent, in 2020 to be part of its presidential campaign coverage.

As a White House correspondent for USA Today, Korte won the Gerald R. Ford Foundation Prize for Distinguished Reporting on the Presidency for coverage of President Obama’s last year in office. What helped him win the prize was a series of stories he did on Obama’s pardons and commutations – based in part on a database he built by hand.

As a Congress reporter for the paper, he filed 120-plus Freedom of Information Act requests a year, including several for never-before-released data sets.

Korte is an Ohio native who also worked at the Cincinnati Enquirer and Akron Beacon Journal.
