Kool named utilities reporter at Maine daily

Daniel Kool

Daniel Kool has been named the Portland Press Herald’s utilities reporter, covering electricity, gas, broadband — anything you get a bill for. He also covers the impact of tariffs on Maine and picks up the odd the business story.

He joined the Press Herald in 2024 as the night reporter.

A graduate of Boston University, he previously covered city news, transportation and higher education for the Boston Globe.

His work has also appeared in GBH News, the Boston Globe Magazine and Boston University’s student newspaper, where he was the city news editor.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
