Ben Klayman, the Detroit bureau chief and North American transportation editor for Reuters, is retiring at the end of the year.

He has been responsible for a team of about 10 reporters covering everything from autos to aerospace to airlines to outer space.

Klayman got his start in journalism professionally in 1990 on a small weekly in Maryland, and was the business editor of the Youngstown Vindicator and then a business reporter for the Toledo Blade until he joined Reuters in 1998.

He has covered a broad range of industries in my time, including automotive, manufacturing, housing, telecommunications, sports business and general news.

Klayman is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis.
