Dianne DeSevo, chief people officer at Dow Jones & Co., and Wall Street Journal editor in chief Matt Murray sent out the following on Tuesday:
Colleagues,
Culture is fundamental to an organization. It defines how we work and learn and shapes our beliefs about our company. To help align and advance the culture of Dow Jones, we are excited to announce that Brent Jones becomes SVP of Training, Culture & Community for Dow Jones, effective April 4. Brent will also continue in his masthead role for the Journal newsroom as Editor, Culture, Training & Outreach, and will maintain oversight of the Dow Jones News Fund as its president.
In Brent’s expanded role, he will report to both of us while working closely with Almar, senior leaders and other strategic partners across the company to invigorate and align our training, employee experience, DEI and several other People functions. This will create consistency and allow Brent to build on his newsroom training, culture and outreach best practices across the company. His work will help refine what it means to work at Dow Jones and will embed DEI and our values into everything we do. It will also fine-tune how we present our culture externally, to aid in recruitment, outreach and our employer brand.
Many people across the organization know Brent, in particular in the Journal newsroom, where he has served in his current role since 2020 and previously was an assistant managing editor. Since joining the Journal in 2018, he has designed and implemented transformative training and outreach programs and improved the newsroom’s external partnerships to attract and develop diverse and inclusive talent.
Stay tuned for more updates, and please join us in thanking and congratulating Brent for taking on this important effort.
