Wall Street Journal editor in chief Emma Tucker sent out the following:
Dear all,
As we approach the next election, I’m writing to let you know about a new team that we are building in the newsroom to supercharge our coverage. The cross-functional team will work solely on the election, tasked with producing world-class, innovative output.
I’m pleased to announce that the team will be led by Kimberly Johnson, who is taking on a new role as Election Coverage Editor while retaining her role as Deputy Chief News Editor. Kimberly has a record of building and leading teams across the newsroom and in this expanded role, she will bring her sharp news judgement and digital prowess to what will be one of the most important stories of the next two years.
The team will be made up of specialists in audience, data, graphics, pictures, and video as well as writers and editors. We will also have representatives from our colleagues in marketing and product as part of the team. They will work closely with the D.C. Bureau and our politics team led by Ben Pershing, who will bridge both teams.
With more than 25 years of experience, Johnson joined the Journal in September 2014 as a news editor for the CFO Journal vertical, for which she also served as bureau chief. She also held the posts of professional products editor for WSJ Pro and coverage chief of the speed and trending desk.
She was founder and proprietor of KSJ Media Services, an international, multi-faceted media consultancy focused on writing, editing and training for international media outlets and private organizations. She reported for Mergermarket and covered general and business news for features at GlobalPost.com.
She worked as an auto writer at The Associated Press and was a tech and business reporter at The Denver Post. She also worked at The Boston Globe.
Johnson has a B.S. and M.S. from Boston University.
