Institutional Investor’s Thrasher to cover family offices

Michael Thrasher

Institutional Investor senior reporter Michael Thrasher is switching beats and will now cover family offices.

“I don’t feel like a tourist in the family office universe, but I also acknowledge that I have much to learn,” he wrote on LinkedIn.

He previously worked at Pensions & Investments and was editor in chief of Institutional Investor’s RIAIntel before rejoining Institutional Investor in 2023.

Thrasher initially joined Institutional Investor five years ago as a reporter. He previously was a reporter for WealthManagement.com.

Thrasher has covered brokerages, RIAs and everything that impacts them. He has written about mergers and acquisitions, regulatory changes, technology and industry trends.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
