The New York Times has hired Dan Appenfeller as a senior staff editor and a deputy weekend editor in its Washington bureau.
Appenfeller joins from Insider, where he was a copy editor, editing stories on domestic politics, finance, the economy, national security and popular culture. Before that, he has worked as an assistant editor and then as an associate editor at ESPN.
He was also a copy editor/page designer at The Baltimore Sun Media Group. He previously also had a Dow Jones internship on the sports copy desk at the Times.
Appenfeller graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Maryland, where he was managing editor of its student newspaper, The Diamondback.
