Hello everyone,

So some news … After 40-plus years as a journalist – the last decade or so as IFR’s bureau chief in the US – the legend that is Jack Doran is to retire at the end of the month.

It’s been a hell of a career. From the Bond Buyer at Thomson Financial, to Reuters News/Thomson Reuters (including a stint leading their push into TV), to being in charge of IFR in the Americas.

It is my privilege to be the one to write the “banging out” email, but I know that I speak for all those who have worked with Jack when I pay tribute to the wisdom and guidance he has provided over those years. He showed us all how to run a newsroom – and how to do journalism and work with journalists.

The team in New York will be organising a leaving do for Jack in the next few weeks, and I hope to do another one when I get over to New York sometime later in the year. Maybe I’ll finally find out what his catchphrase “copacetic” means.

Thanks for everything, Jack. Enjoy retirement.
