Murfett writes, “By the time I arrived at Morning Brew’s Chelsea headquarters at 5:45 a.m., Freyman and Howell had already been preparing for more than 90 minutes — fine-tuning scripts, rehearsing tricky pronunciations, trading jokes with producers in the control room and warming up their voices.
“The company’s open-plan office stayed mostly dark as they recorded. The hosts moved briskly through the show while producers scattered to edit audio, graphics and video — the podcast also posts to YouTube.
“Once the recording wrapped, I sat down with the two.
“In its earliest iteration Morning Brew Daily used to tape at 9 a.m. and reach podcast platforms at around 10 a.m.
“Moving the recording to 6 a.m. — which meant a 4 a.m. start to their day — turned out to be a significant inflection point.
“’It was shocking. Listenership almost doubled overnight when we moved to 6 a.m.,’ Howell said. ‘We realized we’d been missing a huge part of the audience.'”
