Russell Sherman of the “Press Profiles” podcast interviewed Fox Business Network anchor Liz Claman about her career.
Sherman called Claman “gritty” and “smart,” as well as “resourceful.”
“None of this came easily,” said Claman. “To this day, none of this comes easily. You have to scratch and climb.”
She got her first job in Columbus, Ohio by looking at the station’s coverage the previous night and pointing out to the news director during an interview that it should have led with a business story. When the news director pointed out that he’d recently hired a new staff who didn’t know the market and what was important, Claman responded that she was from California and didn’t know the market either.
“You have to take chances in life, and it’s not supposed to be comfortable,” she said.
Claman then worked at stations in Cleveland and Boston before landing at CNBC in 1998, landing the first long-form interview with billionaire Warren Buffett while there. She joined Fox Business in 2007.
