Russell Sherman of the “Press Profiles” podcast interviewed Caroline Hyde of Bloomberg Television about her work as anchor of “Bloomberg Technology.”
Hyde joined Bloomberg in 2008 to cover the European debt markets as a corporate finance reporter, focusing on company loans and bonds as well as sovereign debt.
She said her background in public relations helps her work with PR professionals in terms of getting the right sources and guests on her show.
“When I was in PR, I had the luxury of really long quotes that encapsulated stories,” said Hyde. “At Bloomberg, it’s a little more discerning.”
Her work at Bloomberg started during the financial crisis that led to the downfall of Bear Stearns. “There was an exhaustion to it,” she said. “Baptism by fire was where it was at.”
She also said she learned that her work schedule was much longer than her time in public relations.
