Bloomberg Television anchor Dani Burger joined Russell Sherman’s “Press Profiles” to discuss her path from rookie hedge fund reporter to the host of “Open Interest” and the recently launched “Bloomberg Deals.”
Burger said she gets nervous, blending with excitement, before she interviews a well-known person in the investment community. “The energy that I am feeling, it’s nervousness but realizing the importance of what I am about to do,” she said. “…And I want to make sure I give it justice.”
She doesn’t like to approach an interview with a list of questions, feeling as if that restricts the conversation. For research, she uses artificial intelligence to create a list of stories where the person has been mentioned or quoted.
A University of Virginia graduate, Burger realized early that she did not want to be a political reporter. Financial journalism “really appealed to me,” but she admitted that she didn’t know finance well. “They were just willing to gamble on me,” Burger said about being hired by Bloomberg News.
“It’s like learning a language,” she said. “Once you learn the language, it clicks.”
Burger admitted that she slept through her first Bloomberg Television appearance, which was scheduled to be early in the morning.
