The Houston Chronicle has named Rachel Nostrant to cover oil and energy on the business news desk.

A story on its website states, “In this role, Nostrant will cover the complexities of an industry at a crossroads as it navigates calls for global growth while at the same time bracing for a transition to cleaner fuels. She’ll also focus on how those demands impact Houston, its residents and workers, and its at-time fragile infrastructure. Nostrant will go beyond typical corporate updates to explore the human impact of shifting energy, policy and environmental priorities on Houston and its people.

“‘I can’t wait to get started. I’m excited to drill into (pun intended) how the oil and gas side of the energy industry impacts Houstonions — the good, the bad, and the ugly. My hope is that I can bring a people-first approach to the Chronicle’s coverage of energy,’ Nostrant said.

“Before joining the Chronicle, Nostrant was with the national desk at the New York Times, covering everything from school shootings in Georgia to wildfires in California, while also writing enterprise pieces that focused on the issues facing people with disabilities and veterans. Prior to the Times, Nostrant wrote for Reuters, the Associated Press, and VTDigger in Vermont.”
