The Houston Chronicle has named Brian Rausch as its new weekend editor, leading weekend coverage as part of the breaking news team.
In his prior role as assistant business editor, he’s been an integral part of the business desk for the past several years. In addition to leading real estate and retail coverage, he coordinated the annual Chronicle 100 and Top Workplaces sections.
In nine years at the Chronicle, Rausch has worked as a digital producer, managed an early incarnation of the Chronicle website and most recently spent five years as assistant business editor. He created the Chronicle’s first newsletter, the Afternoon Report, in 2017.
“The weekend editor has a unique challenge of providing readers with stories that are tailored to what they want on Saturdays and Sundays; something a little different than what they get Monday to Friday,” Rausch said. “It could be longer, more in-depth reads, fun quick hits, the latest sports updates or live coverage of events that Houstonians attend on weekends. The weekend team and I will deliver the same high-quality journalism our subscribers expect every day of the week.”
Before coming to Houston, the Windy City native worked 15 years at the Chicago Sun-Times and its suburban papers and six years as an editor on the Chicago Tribune’s business desk. In between, he lived three years in Mexico City, where he helped launch an English language newspaper.
